The Tempyo Tanabata Matsuri is held every year in diferent places of Nara. This is the Festival of Stars, based on an old Japanese legend. This festival was already celebrated in the Palace by the year 700, during Nara Period.

During the festival there are several events, such as concerts, night markets, processions and parades. Also, infinity of candles are placed before Daigokuden Hall, symbolizing the Milky Way, that plays a fundamental role in the legend on which the festival is based.

In the large esplanade between the Suzaku Gate and Daigokuden Hall, there is an installation of mirror balls and lights representing the Five Heavenly Creatures: the Vermilion Bird, the Blue Dragon, the White Tiger, the Black Turtle and the Yellow Dragon.

To recover strength and take a refreshment to combat the hot summer night, just approach one of the multiple stands situated in the west part of the Palace Park, where to taste delicacies from different areas of Japan and foreigns countries.
