MIYAKO HIME TACHINOMI: RELAX AFTER WORKING DAY

Continuing with our social culinary experiment, we will present today Miyako Hime Tachinomi. As its name (Tachinomi: drink standing) in this type of bars you drink and eat standing in front of a bar. This is a typical bar where japanese sarary man (bussiness people) are going after a long working day. The place is so close to our hostel you can see the blue and white light sign from our balcony.

As Tori Ichi Yakitori, this is a good place to interact with locals, since you are standing elbow to elbow with them. Here the prices are really cheap, so our budget fits perfectly. Most dishes cost between 200 and 300 yen, beer 380, and the variety of sakes ranging from 300 to 600 the glass, as the quality increases. This does not mean that the 300 is bad; I have only tried this till now and is really good.

The food is likewise delicious. The most popular dish is the Assortment of Kushikatsu, 5 skewers batter fries of different flavors (squid, sausage, eggs, lotus and meat) to be dipped in a special sauce. It is a substantial dish that costs reasonable 480 yen, less than 100 each skewer. The first time I went there I ate the Cheese with nori and Horumon Karaage (fried beef testines) Everything was good, but my recommendation is the Bonito Tataki, exquisite sashimi. The second time I went with hostel guests and everyone wanted to repeat the Tataki.

Here our experiment works perfectly: a drink and two dishes or two drinks and a dish not reach 1,000 yen budget. The difficult thing is to stay there and not further increase the account at the expense of any food or drink more. In my case, after a beer, I did not leave without trying the sake.
