I wrote about this tourist spot in the post of Naramachi, but I think it is worth writing an exclusive post.

This house museum displays all the characteristics of the Edo period machiya, being very easy to understand the daily life of that time. They have brochures in several languages, including of course English, and Spanish. In this brochure they are explained perfectly the features of the house, so I will just summarize.

The machiya were workshops and shops as well as residence. They were urban construction with a long, narrow structure, in order to avoid expensive tax according to the width of the front of the house. As can be seen perfectly in the visit, the builders put into practice their wits to take full advantage of the limited width of a functional manner, using practical opening systems for windows and doors, placing drawers under the stairs... At the same time, they managed to enter the sunlight and open space to the outside through the central garden.

The staff in charge offers a very friendly service, showing the use of any of the facilities of the house, such as doors and windows.

Certainly we recommend a visit to better understand the culture, tradition and Japanese history.
