Kiyamachi Tofu

For those who have problems with lactose, or who like soy, or just for those who want to try for the first time a genuinely Japanese tofu prepared with natural and traditional methods, Kitamachi Tofu is the place you should go.

Since it entered in Japan from China in the eighth century, after adaptation to Japanese tastes, tofu has become one of the essential foods in Japan, so that is industrially produced on a large scale. However, small businesses are still making fresh tofu daily.

In Kitamachi area, about 20 minutes from the Kintetsu Nara Station, and 2 from Tegaimon Gate, you will find this small shop that sells all kinds of tofu and tofu products, manufactured by Yabuta-san in the kitchen behind the shop.

Street vendor of tofu, who walked the streets of the city by motorbike or bicycle announcing their merchandise, it is an image increasingly difficult to see nowadays.. But Yabuta-san still practiced that tradition often, riding his bike and carrying the tofu in a drawer full of water.

Coming back to the shop soy milk is especially recommended, and for that matter, why not drink it together with a soy donut? By the way, there is discount for our guests on these items, so it's a good opportunity to enjoy one of the healthiest of the Japanese diet.
